It's been a gawddamn blady long time since posting anything of sorts in here! Guess the only way to keep thoughts on the ball is through tweets nowadays. Or (selective)tweets-fbing kinda way, if you know what I mean.

Through March onwards of 2010, I've been packed with work through and through, and there's no time to stop and breathe. Even if there's some speck of breathing moments, it's spent rather closely with friends@work and friends outta work for dinner and drinks to detox. Yeah, alcohol detoxification is not exactly the healthier choice in life, but rest assured there's no alcoholism involved here. Except maybe some times when at work, you need a G&T to start off a day, or after a conversation with a good-for-nothing.

All in all, it's been a rather good 2010 so far! Busy, tough, but definitely happier and good! Friends are starting to settle down through 2010 and to have little juniors of they're own this year are very good news indeed! So cute, some of them! Always make me wonder how having a kid would affect/inspire/enrich my and our lives… time will only tell :)

Maybe this is record-timing (not like I have gazillion of other cats) for Osa is housebroken on the second day!

She's at least 4m-away from the dolly, and sleeping under the table where I'm at now.

Osa is rather vocal though – at night, and in the morning when Gramps was getting ready. I moved everything from the kitchen and dining to the sound-room, so to make her more central and AWAY from the dolly. It worked! And this mornng, she explored the MBR and was around the sofa where I was at earlier. Crazy meower.

Yesterday, when I dragged her out of her dolly comfort-zone and placed her in the sound-room

Great food from a nearby dumpling-noodle shop where we're staying at.

The spice really does look wicked, but apparantly not so. The waitress took Cheng-a-leng's orders for a lighter spiced soup based for Gramps' and her dumpling-noodle soup. Mine (top picture – spicy combination noodles) was full-blast, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. Thought the chilli padi was going to massacre my tastebuds *phew*

The soup looks life-threatening, but hell it was so GOOOOOOOOD!!!!! I'm going back.

So after late dinner, we made our way to Tonghua Street to visit the night market that ends at 1am.

But during the long and wet walk over to Tonghua St., weird itches came onto me. It was only when Cheng-a-leng stopped at the mouth of Tonghua St. to get some delicious-looking sausages that I finally stopped to check the funny itches on my hands. It's starting to spread. Crap, allergic reaction happening again. Gramps was panicking more than I when we had to rush back to the hotel to pop those antihistamines. Red lights we bumped into along the way back in the cab weren't helping much, but I was trying to calm and curb the panic and itch whilst chatting with the cabby.

I kinda OD-ed a little on the antihistamines when I was supposed to pop 1 Zyrtec and 1 Atarax. Instead it was 2-1, hell I had a good, soundless sleep that night!

This is how my hands-arms-thighs-bum (no, no nekkid bum shots) look within the hour after dinner.

Maybe they're itchy cellulite? LOL! This time there's no anaphylactic shock as I popped the antihistamines asap (or OD-ed on them), THANK GAWD.

The night before...
I started early on the Turkey gravy, therefore Jamie Oliver calls it the Get-ahead Gravy. Who knows this will take me 3 hours?! Anyhoo, 1st try – hope this will taste good on HoboXmas09! Cross the fingers next year's will be better :P

So Getahead Turkey gravy is frozen as we speak and will be married with Turkey roast juices on actual day. So let's see how this will turn out!

And earlier in the late morning...
I started on the 2nd-try Kueh Lapis Spekkoek, or Kueh Lapis Legit. Oh the crazy process, which I must admit, it's super fun to prep, but crazy tedious to grill each layer. And after all that's done, you think to yourself while looking at the cake – ALL FOR THIS?!

Me: Oh, sad. Alritey then, I'll get the chicken soup. *ordered while pointing to the picture in the menu — the clear chicken soup*

Pahtey of the year! Oh and the crazy drinks, pain and dancing... and suffering after were horrendous!

But oh my gawd. It's been a long time since I've danced my boot away.

Crazy new boots, gave me a blister on the back of my right foot. So left with no choice, I had to be bootless for the rest of the night after drinks came pouring in, and excitement heightened for everyone of us to head to New Asia Bar to dance the night away.

It was a complete blur after as I woke up the next late morning with just a towel around my neck still. Hilarious come to think about it, but barfing is not funny.

Food-Bile-Yakult in poor Rafik wasn't fun, but Zombieland was a fantastic choice for a hangover movie.

Every since I've read about Uguisu from some design blogs which I can't remember now, I've been totally obsessed with them, but to no avail of getting them 'cept setting my mind on buying off them online. But all hail BishGirl for finding out where to get them here and as a Xmas09 gift, I've inherited a set of 2 rolls! Thanx charbor! Love you many many!

And over the weekend, Gramps and I chanced upon a newly opened stationery shop in the basement of Raffles City called PaperMarket. Helluva shites! I went nuts! If it's such a secret, then it's better not to say (to anyone).

If you think people are okay with knowing, then be prepared to be teased. And best of all, be prepared to have a good answer.

Is there a need to pretend as though it was a passing conversation? It wouldn't be that bad in reflection to others if there was a reason to give. But I guess there weren't and there isn't a need to. But somehow actions speak louder than words — like a guilty conscious shrug or like a... 'Come on...'.

It's funny to think of it, seriously. Human behaviour is pretty puzzling.

So fine by me and anybody else.

TWO bad memory
What I do: If I owe someone something, I'll promise to return almost immediately. Or worse comes to worse, ASAP. I do not wait for the person to chase me, or if I really forgotten about, then my true apologies.

But what annoys me most is that you chase someone a couple of times, give a few chances of them getting back to you (by themselves), but in the end nothing comes out of it. No news, sound, no action. NADA.

Seriously. Like is there a memory lapse problem or just pure ignorance? I really need to understand this.

I do have the Cynical-Local-Face right this minute, but c'mon... seriously? That's pure bullshit.

There's always a certain level of self-seeking and kindness that overlaps at the same time, but sometimes (just sometimes) it begets you.

From family to friends, from strangers and to work-peers alike, it happens all the time, everywhere else. What, am I to live with it? Occasionally I do. But when it comes to closer relationships, it's severely disappointing to experience.

I thought making a XO fried rice today's going to brighten up my nosicals. Oh yes, no. Bad, bad, BAD choice to go for mini shrimps that smell oh-so-bad!

So what you see here is actually just the prep, cos the After is not seeing the light of day. I did eat some for dinner, but not after adding some soya sauce to drown the weirdo stinkeroo fishorama mini shrimps. ACK! I thought of saving it for next day's lunch, but after many a-second thought, dumpage it is. What a waste I know, cos it was enough to poison a small village. I'm doing this world some good, at least.

So in order to console my disappointed dinner DIY, I made use of the pears Gran gave me (they'll be wasted if I don't do this), the remaining butter in the fridge and leftover flour in the container to conjure up a 2-layer pear crumble! Oh wait, I think it's a pear crumble sandwich?, oh yes whatever that is. It's not too schweet, which is good, but high on crumbles... YUMS!

Now I'm a little happier.

Call me uptight, but I do agree that order is an art form.

The epiphany struck when I was arranging the Hangout room shelves. I have a bunch of 20+ Copic markers from many moons' ago currently living (incompletely) in a ziploc bag. The markers have been transferred from one shelve to another, and haven't got the fracking clue on how to store without messing them or hiding them up!

Weird waking up at 11am and heading straight into the kitchen! Can't believe I was that hardworking.

Successful stirfy finally! I know it's easy, but I haven't tried it fully with gravy yet, and this was a delicious first. Carrots and asparagus were cooked and crunchy, mushrooms were nicely sauteed and the fish sauce was finally put to good use!

It's been a while, but I've also finally dug out the recipe by my lovely x-colleague/friend JSoh! Super simple and healthy to boot, all cooked al naturale with chix drum fats coated with just a simple curry powder and salt. Next on the list, mom-in-law's GeneralAuntie's Chix!

That was brunch before we left to run our errands for the day, long day indeed — TPY-RafflesCity-PeninsulaShoppingCentre-ParkMall-Centrepoint. We were, and are so beat!

Ended the day in Centrepoint (alamak so domesticated to spend most of our time in Robinsons!) with dinner at Crystal Jade Korean Restaurant, yums! Many yums I know. As you can tell, my appetite has returned after the last days and weekend with a bad indigestion, bah!

P.S. Oh and I must congratulate my friend ala Shugarhigh for her poppage (2 days after mummy's birthday)! BBoy came a little earlier than expected, but at least he's healthy and on the way to going home to new daddy and mummy! So far, his hospital peekchers are too cute, but I can't wait to see him in person and smell that newborn bbschmell! :D

So about a week later, this is all I'm left with... post-traumatic bruises from the IV and the falls in the washroom. How glam.

So this is how it all started last Sunday evening in Takashimaya.

dr.lowem, the husband aka Gramps aka bodega, cheng-a-leng, and SeahSt. went for Japanese dinner at Tonkichi, our all-time favourite tonkatsu food.

As usual, and also being the most boring eater in the whole wide world, I ordered the chicken katsu curry with rice, and additional Tonjiru soup *yums*. And on the side as a new dish to us (being adventurous), I've always wanted to try the Ton Shabu Set ala carte, so we ordered and shared it. My gawd, I must say, it was fantastically delicious! No porky smells, with lovely dips of vinegared shoyu, and the sesame sauce. I'll order that again in a heart beat!

It was uber filling after the watermelon dessert! So after we left, I did a big-one in the bathroom (oh yes, this I gots to share), before we left for the Civic Square to watch the Lion Dance Competition. You know, the usual... crowds, peeps... heat... excitement and all. We didn't stay long and left after about 30 minutes. Everything was a-ok until the walk from Taka to Hyatt.

From there onwards, the fingers started to itch. It felt like an all-over bites from insects starting from the fingers... then the legs... then my bum! WAH! Nuts! So I thought it was due to the tiredness of a whole-day outting in town and fullness that's causing all the sudden 'hives' attack again. Yeah, I contracted hives when I had Go India! before my trip to England!

In the car-ride home, I was scratching like a maniac around my palms, then my arms, and the tingling biting sensation just wouldn't go away! I thought going home, taking a shower, taking antihistamines was going to help... but Gramps asked if I should pop by the nearest hospital from home and have it checked out. He wouldn't have suggested it if I didn't say that I felt the tightening sensation around the neck area, and I could feel my own heart beating in my head. I was panicking bad and also had to take off all my rings 'cos I was swelling up bad with spreading rash!

UGH, it still gives me shivers up till now.

So we dropped by Mt.Alvernia asap, and as I was walking from the car to the ER, my vision was shutting down on and off. AND I got a stomachache and gots to do another big-one! WTF, right? Right in the middle of this, like seriously! So the hubby (love him to bits, but...) wheeled me from the door, in like the SLOWEST pace possible to the handicapped washroom for me to do my biznatch.

Major no-no to be alone in the washroom at this time, innit? Yeah! Of cos! Definitely! So as my vision was turning on and off, and with me doing my BIG biznatch, I blacked out whilst cleaning up! at the back of mind I could hear some klinging and klanging, and as I got my vision back again, (OOPSIE-DAISIES!) I had fallen over into the metal bin in front of me. Klutz.

So I managed to get up again, finish cleaning up, and go wash my hands! Oh yes, while stumbling around in the fracking toilet. Not a good idea, rite? Of cos! Yet again! While washing my hands, vision disappeared! I think I must have fell over close to 4 times in there, lame.

Yes, I know about the emergency pulling thingie (haha!) in front of the throne. And NO to yall, for I WILL NOT, yes I repeat, WILL NOT be caught with my pants down in public by a stranger! Yes, even for help. For now, that is.

So humpty dumpty fell over a couple more times, got herself out of the loo (the girl standing outside must be wondering what's with the din in there!), and sat on the nearest chair I can reach quickly in front of the washroom. Where the hell was the hubby?!

Now this is a complete blur, though I do remember panicking really bad trying to breathe and with the constant in/out vision and bawling like a little girl! Wahlau, so unglam!

I was wheeled into one of the ER rooms to be put on oxygen while I was transferred onto a gurney. My vision started to come back then and the nurse had to make use of my consciousness to put on IV. Like HELLOOOOOOOooooooo, dr.lowem is not a fan of needles! I was whining like frack, and the hubby was trying to calm me while the nurse did two failed attempts in finding a vein. I is suay!

So she had to have a doctor over to find the next available vein to do the IV. And before that happened, another jab into the butt for the meds to take effect. So yes, 4 jabs in total -_-" No time to sweat even. I was grogged out, man. My arms were still flushed and the rings were still unwearable till two days later.

The doc came and checked, asked me what I ate, told me what meds to eat, maybe we should turn organic (yah rite) and have antihistamines on hand all the time.

So after a 2+hour episode in the ER, the doc certified me able to fly and sent me home. PHEW! Super surreal episode, for dr.lowem eats everything! Now how?

Next day, we had bbq stingray, sambal squid, distasteful fish maw soup and kangkong at our local. And last night, we had french with couple of bottles of red, then off to another local for a new unfiltered mango umeshu goodness, yums!

Found them online on Nordstrom after realising how expensive it was in UGGS Australia, Covent Garden. Good thing was, managed to check the price and try the boots out! BEST thing was, Nordstrom was having a shoe sale! Double w00t w00t w00t! Okay that's three w00ts. Still happy! :)

Only sad thing was I didn't get to wear them in London :\ Maybe next time to Japan! :)

london bridge is falling down — we're back!

Whoa, two weeks have passed really fast eh? And it seems as though we haven't got much covered in London as yet, cos we've been exploring the same places for about three times?

And it's almost as weird to have been able to visit the In-Laws' side of the extended family throughout the trip as well. Crazy to know they'll rather settle in the UK than anywhere else. Oh except for Mama&PapaG who's in KerNayDer.

It's pretty weird to see how many Indians in town. I could almost feel like like home, 'cept for all the dodginess you never experience back home. The rawness, the edginess, the dirtiness are so much unlike home. But that's the character of big societies as this. The government and people can only do so much. The rest is well, up to anyone of us.

Being a Singaborean, I've grown accustomed to tidiness — not tardiness; rules — not rebellion (though sometimes I feel otherwise); social orders — not the contrary of chaos. It's really quite an experience to the complete opposite of it all. Well, it's not in completion of helplessness, but there are some sense of differences somewhat. You know they'll feel the same way when they experience the SG way-of-life :)

So many things I want to say, but the memory's working at it's slowest RAM... I jux remembered about the football fans' waves in the Emirates Stadium was pretty outstanding! My only regret is not recording it down on video, but the whole stadium did six in all till it started to fizzle out. Even MamaG participated, hilarious! That was pretty amazing, and that's not the most amazing thing, but the downpour after the match wins hands down. To think we contemplated on leaving before the match ends to avoid the crowd to the tube at Arsenal station, oh HELL NO! We sat the match out with crazy goals at the last minute to boot, then as I had the most murderous CSI moment in the bathroom before we left the stadium, the drizzle exploded into a downpour so heavy even a last minute search for a brolly wouldn't help. MamaG, Gramps and I were drenched into our panties (BroG left for a last minute meeting @ work) and walked fully drenched a super long way (seems long even it's jux 10mins to Finsbury station further from the stadium). What an English weather experience. It jux spitted on us.

And boy have we grown fatter. All the food from MamaG has expanded out waistlines real well. Boy does she use a lotta oil in her cooking! I was a little hesitant and eeked out, but when the food is right in front of you on the table, I gladly gobble them down. The irony! I quite miss her cooking though, but am also glad to not have it for a consecutive two weeks! We needs to lose some severe fatness... It's funny how they chide us for not cooking at home with such a beautiful kitchen, and eating out all the time. But really, convenience really says it all. Even HK thinks so — "Living in tiny flats with miniscule kitchens and working long hours, most Hong Kong people prefer to eat out." CNA Ditto.

Frankly, I wish we had more time to explore the place and visit most of the museums and galleries (and concertsssss!!! argh!!!) that we couldn't make time (or miss before/after) for. 'Cos the next time we go back, it'll prolly be a couple of years from now and Ayla, our niece would be a toddler by then! Regrets.

Weather-wise, love the chilleh crisp weather for the summer. Was a little hesitant on coming back to a sticky humid weather, but what to do? No choice lar! Back to itchiness and nosiness and heatiness. Boo.

Also finally one more thing about the VAT Refund for tourists to the UK — please, please, PLEASE have all the shops you purchase from produce a VAT Refund form for you to sign off and also must, must, MUST produce your goods to the VAT Refund counter at the airport for proof of purchase (the officer is SUPER strict on this). It's a severe pain to go through, but you won't live to regret the £s you get to save, unlike us — uber suay-ness. And remember to have them credit back to your cards (instead of £s 'cos they charge service fees, which is effing lame). That's why I holler VAT Refund cheats £££££££££s!!!

So here are 'some' from Laurel Frankel.

These are my absolute favourites. For it's a combination of simplicity and expertise from the photographer to highlight the focus of the shots — the caviar and the mussels. It's been captured so well, that up till now I haven't stopped looking at these two in admiration and envy.

Another one of my faves, a combination of rawness and simplicity. I must digress, they may look the easiest to style but when it comes to doing it, you might rip your hair out. LOL! It's a complexity of making them look naturally placed, yet professionally done. Do I actually make sense?

Guten morgen!

So I'm staying home today to get the gas riser pipe inspector over from CityGas for checks. Took the whole day off so I can catch up on some sleep. It must take some getting use to getting back at an 8.30am job, even though it's just for freelance.

Hello! My body does not work well with mornings, man. I was falling asleep on the couch at 11p last night, even though I know I'm not working today, ridiculous!

And with the current full and gloomy weather, I think the chances of heading into town for a long-awaited yoga sessh can go down the drain. Bah! Lazy in ma bones!

But it's nice being in a familiar set of surroundings. I miss the peeps in 82GL and catching up with them is well, kinda endless. It's always nice to be able to M.I.A. for a bit, and still pickup our conversation where we left off before.

Tonnes of friends around, hard to keep in touch most of the time. What the old lady (aka granny) always says (about the rest of the family), everyone have their own family and friends to be busy with, why would they be bothered with you? Okay maybe that sounds a tad disappointing, but I guess indirectly that happens. And once the old is casted aside as the past, the current always picks up and held onto with a tight grip — to know more of, to argue with, to understand more of and to manipulate (haha!).

Ah the relationship trials and tribulations between family, friends and acquaintances. They never seem to end. They just flourish as we grow older. Paranoia and sensitivity always play a part with each other as everybody grows older. Sigh, what a life we all have eh?

Yes we've been back since 3 Mondays ago, and each of the few days in the week and Saturdays since was a tad crazy.

Peeps were in and out of the home fixing and patching last minute touch-ups which never seem to end. That's how tiring and bothersome it is. And I'm still haunted by close to 10 carton boxes to either donate, clear, or store away.

PHEW, but then again, we're so blady glad it's finally HOME RUN and time for us to enjoy the newly created surroundings again. Yes, amidst the dusty contruction that's going outside now. Bleah!

Anyhoo, pictures will be updated again without carton boxes! Give me, erm... 3 years? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! Effing hell.

Re-tiling mosaic is done! YES! So we've moved in since Monday, but haven't totally unpacked due to some unforeseen circumstances of crappy mosaic tiling work done by a second tiler. I must admit, his handywork is ridiculous.

Another new set of pictures to push the deadline closer to the completion of HDB101. Yeah, as for all renovations, it's running a tad late. Luckily we have them another week's buffer to fine tune everything before the live-in.

Cabinets for the Hangout, Dining and Kitchen are close to completion. Just some minor adjustments and changes (some extra panels for shelvings, and some chips off the laminates are spotted).

HDB101 is close to completion! We are close to heading back home!

Oh man, I'm so looking forward to sleeping on my own bed, in some familiar but new surroundings.

Aiyah, still some problems along the way.

1. Galvanised steel wire casings has to be decided to be painted black, cos the steel has uneven finish and connections.

2. Dangling blubs in the dining area has to be rearranged due to the new location of the AC.

3. Sound Room has to deduct 2 downlights due to the unleveled ceiling.

4. Ceiling fan for the Sound Room still NOT purchased! WTH.

Other than that... all's going according to plan!

I am setting my heart down and writing a one-page essay.

But all I have now is a title, and I have so many ideas that I don't know where to start! I think writing down in point-form will help.

But I keep getting distracted. By Flickr, by Facebook, or by everything 'cept settling down and penning down my thoughts on this bloody essay!

I'm trying to get ready to take a huge leap of faith and take that step of change, but something is holding me back. I guess I'm not good with change. But I'm really looking forward to it, and I hope the essay will boost to my advantage.

I have a friend who's assured that it's going to be a good change and fulfilling if I take the chance to make that opportunity happen. Yes mdm! I'm going to try, and thank you for the confidence that you've given me.

But there's been so many changes for the past months that I was pretty sure I'm falling off track of where I want to be. I think I'm close. Yeah, that sounds pretty depressing. But more of defeated. And it's pretty hard to swallow and not feel small about it.

Fuck.

I have a note in my iPhone that I wanted to expand on in words, but I didn't know how to carry on — because I was distracted. The title was "Undermining My Skills", and I guess it was created during one of those moments when I felt much grudged and angry. It was a little tough expanding that into an iPhone, until now. And from this, I could have written my essay instead. Ridiculous.

But seriously, I miss the busy moments of being out of the house, doing non-house schtuffs — on weekdays, mind you. If you know what I mean.

I miss almost everything out there except home. But I must admit, I do miss the home I'm renovating now. I miss the comfort of the nooks and crannies I've grown to love for almost 24 years. I miss hanging out at home (with nothing better to do) and not feeling guilty about it.

I hope these aren't signs of getting stir-crazy.

Thank gawd it's not an adult's version of HFMD. Cos that will really puzzle me and SUCKS!

My feet has been itching till the cows come home since being back from KL almost 2 weeks ago. Initially I thought it's going away over last weekend, but more spotty-spot-spots started appearing on my soles! My soles are spotty! NIAK! BELCH! And they itch like muthafarkahs!

Sorry man, I just HAVE to whine. I really can't tolerate itches, especially on the feet 'cos they make me lose sleep! And I wear flipflops all the time, which makes wearing them all the more uncomfortable!

So finally I've visited the doc's earlier to have them checked out. Well, at least I got to see Jamiroquai — slightly happier about that.
